Day 1
We plan to visit a historic winery where a great deal of attention is paid to sustainability. We’ll taste the famous wines of Barolo, Barbera d’Alba and Roero. The wines will be accompanied by local cheeses and charcuterie. We’ll then visit a nearby winery which has received many awards. The wines are of high quality with a focus on local and indigenous vines such as Roero DOCG, Barbera, and a wonderful selection of Spumante’s. We shall taste these in combination with a delicious Piemontese Toma. We’ll then get back into the car and drive about half an hour to the cozy Agriturismo where we’ll stay in this trip. Dinner will be served in or near our holiday home.
Day 2
The day will start with an Italian breakfast and delicious coffee. We the leave for our first wine tasting of the day. The family we plan to visit has a passion for the authentic grape varieties of the region such as Nebbiolo. From there we’ll visit a family business where grandfather Carlo started making wine more than 100 years ago. Here we’ll taste seven wines accompanied by a wide range of snacks. Then it’s time for coffee and a visit to one of the beautiful towns in the area such as Montforte d’Alba. Once we’ve have enjoyed all that beauty, we’ll travel on to our last wine tasting of the day. This winery is named after a legendary woman who managed to gain her position as a woman in the male-dominated Piedmont wine culture. The feminine touch is reflected in the beautiful labels of the wine bottles and the fairytale winery. After all these wine tastings, the rest of the afternoon we’ll have for some free time. We’ll leave then for dinner in the city.
Day 3
After breakfast we leave for a wine tasting nearby. This is a small family-run business that produces excellent barolos and will welcome us warmly. Then follows a wine tasting session with no fewer than 10 wines and an extensive lunch including bubbles of Asti and the truffles of Alba. Here we’ll be introduced to the Nizza DOCG, a super Barbera that the Italians drink slightly chilled when sitting around a pool in the summer. After lunch we’ll leave for a historical trip. We’ll get an impressive tour of the underground cathedrals and taste some of the sparkling wines produced here. In the early evening we return to our holiday accommodation where we’ll get ready for dinner.
Day 4
Breakfast is early today because we’ll leave for the airport.
