How to fly to sardinia (Olbia airport)

Getting to Sardinia is easier than it may sound. Here’s how we recommend planning your journey.

Introduction

Getting to Sardinia is easier than it may sound.

The most comfortable and reliable way to reach our retreat is to fly to Rome or Milan first, and then continue with a short domestic flight to Olbia (OLB) on the same day.

Here’s how we recommend planning your journey.

Step 1 – Fly from the United States to Rome (FCO) or to Milan (MXP)

Book an international flight from your nearest U.S. airport to:

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) also called Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

or to

Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP)

Most major U.S. cities offer direct or one-stop flights to Rome or Milan, including:

  • New York (JFK / Newark)
  • Boston
  • Miami
  • Chicago
  • Atlanta
  • Dallas
  • Los Angeles (seasonal)

Try to choose a flight that arrives in Rome between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM, which allows plenty of time for the connection to Sardinia.

Step 2 – Fly from Rome (FCO) or to Milan (MXP) to Olbia (OLB)

From Rome or Milan, you will take a short domestic flight to:

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB)
(the main airport for northeastern Sardinia).

The flight is very easy:

  • Flight time: about 1 hour
  • Distance: short regional flight
  • Average frequency: about 5–6 flights per day

Typical daily departures run from early morning to late evening (approximately 6:00 AM – 10:55 PM)

Airlines flying Rome/Milan- Olbia

You will typically find flights operated by:

  • ITA Airways (Italy’s national airline)
  • Aeroitalia
  • Volotea
  • easyJet (seasonal routes)

All depart directly from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) or Milano Malpensa (MXP) and arrive in Olbia (OLB).

Recommended Connection Time in Rome or Milan

We strongly suggest allowing:

Minimum connection time: 2.5–3 hours

This gives you enough time to:

  • clear passport control
  • collect luggage (if needed)
  • recheck bags
  • reach your Sardinia gate comfortably

Both Rome and Milan airports are large but very well organized.

Step 3 – Arrival in Olbia

Once you arrive in Olbia:

  • Our organized transfer will take you directly to the retreat location.
  • No additional planning is required.
  • Full transfer details will be provided after your booking confirmation.
Helpful Booking Tips
  • Book both flights on the same day whenever possible.
  • If you prefer extra comfort after a long flight, you may also arrive in Rome one day earlier and overnight near the airport.
  • June is high season in Sardinia, so we recommend booking flights early for the best fares.
